The MHA/NC's commitment to advocacy is the cornerstone and foundation of our mission.  By providing a voice for those who experience mental illness and their families, we meet our mission of promoting mental health and supporting hope.  The MHA/NC advocates for greater access to appropriate and affordable care, parity between mental illness and physical illness in health insurance coverage, increased funding for research and services, and the elimination of the stigma that creates discrimination against people with mental illness.  MHA/NC furthers these advocacy priorities through participation in state level mental health coalitions, legislative and community advocacy, and by providing information on mental health policy issues to governmental officials and agencies.
