Undergraduate and Master's Level Internship Opportunities
The Mental Health Association in North Carolina, the states oldest and largest advocacy organization on behalf of mental health and persons with mental illness is seeking students of social work (Undergraduate and Masters Level) to provide help to people contacting our information and referral line. The I&R is a partnership between MHANC and the Division of MH/DD/SAS to provide accurate information to consumers, families, professionals, and providers on the MH/DD/SA system and its transformation in North Carolina as well as general mental health information and referrals.
Undergraduate Student Internship Opportunity:
Interns will get experience in locating resources for individuals, understanding health care systems, government and private benefits, rights, education, transportation, housing and other issues that affect people with disabilities. Students will have the opportunity to practice interpersonal skills and case management type techniques. Training is provided and position is supervised. Located in Raleigh, NC.
Job duties:
- Responding to calls and emails with compassion and respect
- Listening, determining nature of problem, and problem-solving with individuals
- Providing information on mental health, developmental disabilities and addiction
- Locating community resources
- Following up with individuals to ensure appropriate information is provided
- Data collection and computer entry
Hours: Part-time, flexible hours between 8AM and 5PM Monday through Friday. A minimum 4 hours per week is required.

Master's Student Internship Opportunity:
Students will get experience in locating resources for individuals, understanding health care systems, government and private benefits, rights, education, transportation, housing and other issues that affect people with disabilities. Students will have the opportunity to practice interpersonal skills and case management type techniques. Training is provided and position is supervised. Located in Raleigh, NC.
Master's interns will attend community, legislative, policy and advocacy meetings and develop insight into the policies that directly impact people accessing services and supports. In addition, Master's level students will lead the development of new training modules and the rewriting the I&R training manual including research on a variety of health and human services topics, interviewing advocates and local experts, and translating research into understandable formats.
